The Melbourne Mandolin Orchestra was formed in 1967 and has thrilled and entertained audiences in almost all the capital cities of Australia as well as numerous cities in Europe and Japan during its overseas tours. It performs a very wide repertoire of music spanning several centuries and numerous styles ranging from Renaissance to contemporary compositions, some of which were written specifically for this orchestra.

Its ranks include professional and dedicated enthusiastic amateur musicians. Despite enormous competition from many other musical ensembles for audiences, it prospers without any outside funding, largely through the dedicated efforts of its members and their families.

We celebrated 40 years of music making in 2008 and have been performing for longer than any other mandolin orchestra in Australia! While this statistic pales by comparison with some orchestras in Europe and America, we're proud of our record and achievements. And best of all, we have tremendous fun playing music!

Please explore this website where you will find out more information about our orchestra and its members, our history and the instruments we play, some biographical information about our members, our forthcoming concert program and the recordings we have for sale. We hope that you find this an interesting website.
